Bean Patties

Makes 9 patties.

  • 2 cans beans (1 black, 1 red), drained, rinsed, and patted dry
  • 2 medium onions, finely chopped
  • 1 bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, finely chopped
  • 2 tsp garlic powder
  • 2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp nutritional yeast
  • 4 tbsp chickpea flour
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 200g smoked tofu, finely cubed
  • 2 tbsp chia seeds

Prep beans: reserve the aquafaba from one of the cans (choose the thicker one). Wash and dry the beans, then bake at 180 C for 15 minutes.

In the meantime, fry onion until golden, add garlic and pepper, fry until soft. Place beans in a bowl and mash until creamy but still chunky. Add the rest of the ingredients - adjust consistency with extra water, chia seeds or chickpea flour.

Form into patties and bake for 30 mins, flipping halfway.
